We wish the New England Patriots the best of luck as they face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at 6:30 PM in a battle for the Superbowl championship! We all wore our Patriots gear today for spirit day, to support our local team! Go Pats!
Well -- we certainly have made up for the lack of snow on the ground – what a storm we had this past week! Two to three feet of snow on the ground all over Massachusetts. The sixth heaviest storm on record for the state – WOW! I hope you all had a chance to go sledding, or snowshoeing, or cross country skiing. I hope you all stayed warm and enjoyed this time with your mom, dad, brothers and/or sisters (and pets). Our kindergarten students changed their sessions this week: morning became afternoon and vice-versa (nice job boys and girls), and thank you to Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Hickey! Our Blue Ribbon site visit, unfortunately, had to be canceled this week due to the storm. I am working on rescheduling that visit and I will let everyone (parents, staff, and students) know when the new dates are confirmed. We had math professional development this week with Mrs. Marchesiani (our Elementary Math Coordinator) on Monday. Our chorus has been practicing with Ms. Friedmann on Wednesday mornings before school. We are also looking forward to our “Music Immersion” program on Friday morning at 9:15 for our third, fourth and fifth grades. And our week will round out with our monthly “Westie Awards” for January on Friday afternoon. Congratulations to all Westie winners!

Another busy week at West Elementary School, as we approach the month of February and the New England Patriots advance in their quest to win the super bowl! Go Patriots! We had no school on Monday, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. The CARE program hosted a visitor on Tuesday morning – thank you to our CARE staff. I met with Ms. Lauren Burt, a senior at Plymouth North High School, on Wednesday who is interested in offering after school enrichment to third, fourth, and fifth grade students, teaching American Sign Language! Ms. Burt hopes to be an interpreter for the deaf someday. This sounds like an exciting opportunity for our boys and girls. Parents - please let your classroom teacher know if your child is interested in this program (for third, fourth, and fifth grades). West teachers had professional development on Wednesday afternoon, learning about differentiated instruction. Thank you West teachers! Our West teachers have been meeting at their professional learning communities this week – thank you West teachers. And we are all exited for our “Blue Ribbon” visitors who are coming to West next week on Wednesday, January 28th and Thursday, January 29th. I would like to thank all West staff, parents and students for their hard work to get us ready for this very important visit! Looking ahead, we are looking forward to having a Philharmonic Ensemble for third, fourth, and fifth grade students on Friday morning, and our January Westie awards on Friday afternoon!
A reminder that Kindergarten switches on Monday, January 26th: the morning kindergarten session becomes afternoon kindergarten session and vice-versa. The February edition of the "West Way" will be published (and sent home and posted on our website) during the week of January 26th. See you soon at West! Happy Spirit Day at West School on Friday, January 16th – GO PATS! We continue to work very hard at West Elementary, despite the snow on the ground and (in some cases) ice! BOKs is up and running at West, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – thank you to all of our West volunteers for coordinating and organizing this every week. Our first, third, fourth and fifth grade teachers attended literacy professional development this week – thank you to Mrs. Lacroix-White (Elementary Literacy Curriculum Coach)! Our Math Night Committee met on Tuesday – thank you to all of our hard working West Mathletes! Get ready boys and girls (and parents) for a fabulous night of Math Games, coming on March 4th to West Elementary. Several West staff members attended CPI training at Manoment Elementary this week – thank you teachers (and Mrs. Rossetti) for helping us all be safe at West.
We have early release on Wednesday, January 21st for professional development for teachers. Dismissal will be at 1:05. West parents who are interested in the full day kindergarten lottery for the fall of 2015 should be checking the Plymouth Public Schools website for updated information. West Elementary does not currently offer full day kindergarten; other elementary schools in Plymouth do. Applications should be available in the front office at the end of January or early February. Kindergarten report cards will be sent home on January 23rd (Friday). There is no school on Monday, January 19th, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. A reminder that Blue Ribbon is coming to West Elementary on Wednesday, January 28th and Thursday, January 29th. Have a restful and relaxing long weekend! Happy New Year and welcome 2015! BRRR! It has certainly been cold outside, but that hasn't dampened our sunny enthusiasm at West School! I hope you all had a nice vacation and a great holiday! We are back into the swing of things at West, with lots of busy goals for our new year. Our teachers have been meeting this week during their Professional Learning Community meetings, very busy and focused. Our West School Council presented our School Improvement Plan on Monday evening to the Plymouth School Committee – thank you so much to my fellow council members! Our Blue Ribbon Committee met on Tuesday after school – thank you so much. We are all excited, anticipating our Blue Ribbon visit to West Elementary on January 28th and 29th. We will also have our January staff meeting and West Elementary PTA meeting on Thursday, January 8th. Friday, January 9th is "Spirit Day" at West - GO PATRIOTS! The January edition of "The West Way" has been published on our website and also sent home with families.
I wish all West families a safe, happy, healthy prosperous (and hopefully warmer) new year! |
