We have our “Pig” assembly Monday afternoon at 2:30. The kindergarteners have “Barn Babies” coming Monday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30. Ms. Learning is hosting a Slide Show Monday evening at 6:00. Tuesday, June 23rd is “Field Day” at West! Wear sunscreen, pack a lunch, dress appropriately with sneakers and drink lots of water! Mrs. Dubois is hosting an “End of Year” open house Tuesday evening at 5:00. The Westie awards are on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. The fifth grade farewell is Wednesday evening at 6:30. The Last day of school is Thursday, June 25th. Report cards go home today with students. We have early dismissal at 1:05.
What a week at West! Ms. Reid’s class hosted a poetry reading on Monday – thank you boys and girls and thank you Ms. Reid. We all enjoyed the kindergarten play on Tuesday – what an incredible show about Aesop’s fables! Thank you Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Hickey for their hard work! We have continued with our Read-A-Thon program this week, hosting celebrity readers throughout the week. Keep reading boys and girls! Mr. Young hosted an End of Year Celebration on Wednesday – thank you Mr. Young. On Thursday we all enjoyed the talents of our West performers, with our Talent Show dress rehearsal! We also will enjoy the show on Friday evening at West, open to parents and families. Thank you to our PTA for their help and efforts to organize this special event at West! The fifth grade gym show also happened on Thursday – thank you to Mr. Powers for his hard work to organize this event. On Friday we held our West Volunteer Breakfast – thank you so much for our hard working volunteers and thank you to Ms. Friedman. Fourth grade traveled to Camp Clark on Friday for their field trip. The Pilgrims baseball team visited West on Friday as Read-A-Thon guest readers! Professional musician Jim McCarthy is performed for students on Friday afternoon, and the Scholastic Book Fair visited West on Friday as well.

Another busy week at West! First graders enjoyed a field trip to “Lobster Tales” on Monday. Our teachers have been meeting this week at their Professional Learning Community meetings. We hosted Margaret McGrath this week in the IMC from the Plymouth Public Library. Third, fourth and fifth grades visited the Plymouth Philharmonic on Tuesday. Third graders enjoyed an instrument demonstration on Wednesday. The Plymouth Sheriff’s Department's Canine Unit came to West Elementary on Wednesday afternoon, as part of our "Readers are Heroes" campaign. The Cribbage Club met for the last time on Thursday morning – thank you to Ms. Learning and Mrs. Mento for their hard work with this club! Soccer players from Plymouth North visited us (as part of our Read- A-Thon) on Thursday! Mrs. Routhier hosted a “Celebration of Learning” on Thursday at 1:30. The fifth graders faced off against the West staff for a volleyball game on Thursday afternoon after school. On Friday, Singer Philip Alexander will visit West School as part of our “Read-A-Thon” campaign. Ms. Keegan will host an “End of Year” celebration on Friday afternoon at 1:10. We are all looking forward to the West School Talent Show on Friday evening, June 19th!
Thank you for your support - see you soon at West! June has certainly started off with a bang at West! On Monday we kicked off our reading challenge at West. Let the boys and girls of West School know that Mr. Williams will only kiss a pig if all students read, every night, for fifteen minutes! If all students read and record their daily performance, Mr. Williams will keep his promise to kiss a pig! I am also happy to report that we are getting a generous donation from the Mark Walberg Youth Foundation! The Walberg family is donating $20,000.00 to build brand new basketball courts at West! The Plymouth School Committee approved this request on Monday night. Mrs. Dan Shaughnessy from Shaughnessy Rentals is also donating free labor and equipment to build our brand new basketball courts. We are so excited for the new full court basketball courts that will be coming to West School in the not so distant future! Thank you to the Walberg Youth Foundation, Shaughnessy Rentals, Kaytuck LLC, and Veiga Construction. The town of Plymouth and the students and families of West will certainly benefit from this generous donation!
Third grade students traveled this week to Plimouth Planation on Wednesday. Our PTA had a successful fundraiser at the 99 Restaurant on Wednesday evening – congratulations to our hard working PTA and thank you to those boys, girls, parents and teachers who came out to support West Elementary! The fifth graders hosted their science fair on Wednesday evening – Ms. Perry and I were very impressed with the science projects we visited! Several students reported to us that their original hypothesis came true during their experiment! We have many budding scientists at West! t Our fifth graders visited PCIS on Thursday morning – I hope they enjoyed their experience as future middle school students! Ms. Perry and I enjoyed playing kickball on Thursday with Ms. Donovan’s third graders – thank you boys and girls! Our West School Council and PTA met on Thursday night as well. With three weeks left of school, we are certainly keeping busy at West Elementary! Thank you and we hope to see you soon! |
