May has flown right by us! Our teachers have been busy this week meeting at their PLCs. We have Kindergarten screenings this week for the class of 2029 – thank you to our volunteers for their assistance. Mrs. O’Brien, Ms. Donovan, Ms. Perry, Mrs. Luise and I interviewed candidates yesterday for a new fifth grade teacher at West in the fall – stay tuned! We all enjoyed Dr. Maestas and his “Dream Ride” on Thursday morning – what is your dream, boys and girls? Thank you so much to the West staff for their hard work getting the assembly together. First grade had a gardening adventure on Thursday afternoon – thank you for making West a better place, boys and girls! Thank you also to our many volunteers who assisted with “Nature’s Classroom Community Work Night” on Thursday (tonight, after school). We are also looking forward to our “Wendy’s Fundraiser” tonight - thank you to our PTA for organizing this event! The Westie awards for May will be on Friday morning – thank very much boys and girls for practicing kindness, compassion, respect and responsibility. Another busy week has come and gone at West! We have continued with PARCC testing this week for grades 3, 4 and 5. We had talent show rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this week, and we can’t wait to see the show tomorrow on Friday at 6:00 PM! We held Kindergarten orientation on Tuesday evening for the class of 2029. Thank you to Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. Hickey and Mrs. Luise for their help! We had early dismissal on Wednesday at 1:05 – teachers had professional development. We all enjoyed the spring concert on Wednesday evening at Plymouth North High School! Congratulations to the West Elementary Band, Orchestra and Chorus members! Thank you to Mrs. Kos and Mrs. Runnals for their hard work in organizing and leading the concert for all of us to enjoy! Kindergarten hosted “Barn Babies” on Thursday morning – we all enjoyed goats, kittens, rabbits, puppies and a baby pig! On Thursday evening we have our first “Nature’s Classroom” Community Work Night from 3:40 – 7:00! THANK YOU to ALL of our staff and parent volunteers, and to anyone who donated labor and/or materials! We greatly appreciate your time and assistance! On Friday, second grade will take a field trip to the Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich.
Looking ahead to next week, on Tuesday May 24th, we will be having our second "Community Work Night" for Nature's Classroom at West, from 3:40 - 7:00 PM. Our PTA is sponsoring a "Restaurant Night" on Thursday evening, May 26th at Wendy's Restaurant (near Colony Place). Kindergarten screenings (for the new students in the fall) are happening at West on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (May 24th, 25th and 26th). Mrs. Marchesiani visited our kindergarten teachers on Monday for Math Professional Development. Our teachers have been meeting this week at their Professional Learning Community meetings. We have held Talent Show rehearsals this week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I'm looking forward to our upcoming Talent Show on Friday evening, May 20th at 6:00 PM! We continued PARCC testing for grades 3, 4, and 5 this week; 5th Grade had MCAS Science and Technology testing this week. We celebrated Nurse Marisa on Wednesday for National School Nurse’s Day! Thank you for all that you do, Nurse Marisa! I am looking forward to having a kickball game with Ms. Donovan’s fifth grade class on Thursday afternoon, and we are all looking forward to our annual West Elementary Art Show on Friday night from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Thank you so much to Mrs. Kotakis for her hard work in organizing this display of artistic talent at West!
Looking ahead to next week, we have Kindergarten Orientation (for incoming K students this fall) on Tuesday evening, May 17th at 6:30 PM. We also have early dismissal at 1:05 on Wednesday, May 18th - teachers have professional development. Kindergarten classes have "Barn Babies" visiting on Thursday morning, May 19th - there is no PM kindergarten (the afternoon session comes to West in the morning). We have our first "Nature's Classroom" community work night on Thursday, May 19th from 3:45 PM - 7:00 PM. Please come join us and feel free to donate any materials for our new outdoor classroom! The West Talent Show is being held on Friday evening, May 20th at 6:00 PM. Thank you for your support - see you soon at West! Calling all workers, laborers and generous kind parents and people of the West Community! We have broken ground at West and our Nature's classroom is ready to go! This is a very exciting time to be a West student, parent, or staff member as we grow and develop our new Nature's Classroom. We are in need of donations of all kinds: materials, labor, or both. We need mulch, crushed stone, bricks, pavers, soil, plants, flowers, potting soil, concrete or stone slabs, as well as tools (hoses, watering cans, rakes, and shovels).
We are having two community work nights at West - come for an hour, come for three hours - whatever time you can give to West would be appreciated: Thursday, May 19th from 3:45 - 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, May 24th from 3:45 - 7:00 PM. You can bring any donations to West School and leave them with Mr. Trepanier, our head custodian, at any time during school hours. We greatly appreciate your time and efforts as we bring this exciting adventure to West! Our children will greatly benefit from our new Nature's Classroom, making this dream a reality! Thank you very much! Another busy week has come and gone at West! Mrs. Marchesiani joined us on Monday for math professional development, working with first and second grade teachers. We welcomed a new employee to the Life Skills staff, Zachary LeBlanc. We celebrated “Teacher Appreciation Week” at West – thank you to our hard working, talented teachers! We worked hard on our PARCC tests this week in third, fourth and fifth grades – great job boys and girls! We celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Thursday! Chorus rehearsed on Thursday morning. Our West students have been rehearsing this week for our upcoming West Elementary Talent Show on May 20th. Our first grade students and teachers hosted a Mother’s Day Celebration on Thursday afternoon. We had a staff meeting, school council meeting and PTA meeting on Thursday after school. Fifth grade will travel to PCIS on Friday morning to visit the Planetarium.
