Another busy week has come and gone at West! Our vacation was wonderful, but now seems like a distant memory. On Monday our kindergarten traveled to the PCIS Planetarium. Our teachers have been meeting at their PLC meetings this week. On Tuesday we had Katie Greer, Internet Safety Specialist, visit West to talk to our third, fourth and fifth grade students about internet and technology safety. On Wednesday our fifth graders celebrated “Arbor Day,” learning about trees and our environment. Mr. Palladino, Principal of PCIS, came to meet with our fifth graders on Wednesday morning. Mrs. Alison Riordan, Science Curriculum Coordinator, has been meeting with all teachers this week during their PLCs to discuss and review the new science curriculum. Ms. Perry and I enjoyed a game of kick ball with Ms. Reid’s second grade class on Wednesday afternoon. Our Nature’s Classroom committee met after school on Wednesday. Chorus has rehearsal on Thursday morning. Our PTA is sponsoring a “Restaurant Night” at Wendy’s tonight on Thursday evening. French Club will meet on Friday morning. Mrs. Lacroix-White is conducting literacy professional development with first and second grade teachers on Friday. A busy week indeed! See you soon at West

Another busy week at West! We’ve had auditions for our upcoming "West Talent Show" this week, on Monday and Wednesday mornings. I can’t wait for the talent show on May 20th at 6:00 PM! Our teachers have been meeting this week at their PLCs meetings – thank you to our hard working West teachers! BOKs continued this week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings! French Club will meet on Friday morning. Congratulations to our very own Ms. Perry who celebrated “Assistant Principal’s Week” at West! Thank you for all that you do Ms. Perry. Fifth grade took a field trip to the Museum of Science on Tuesday. Our All Town chorus attended rehearsals on Tuesday. We all enjoyed our enrichment assembly on Wednesday, “S.T.E.A.M.” This dynamic and engaging assembly was enjoyed by one and all – thank you to our PTA for organizing and funding this event at West! The Consulting Teachers of Literacy met at West on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday Mrs. Shannon and Officer Caraher will host “Parenting Digital Natives” at our IMC at West. This very important presentation will highlight ways for our children to be safe while accessing the internet, social media and technology. On Friday morning we will practice a safety “Bus Evacuation Drill” at West. Thank you to our children and bus drivers for being safe at all times at West!
Please enjoy the upcoming vacation, April 18th - 22nd. Looking ahead, we have a presentation on Tuesday, April 26th at 7:00 PM, at the Performing Arts Center at Plymouth North High School. Katie Greer, a national expert on internet safety for children, will be presenting. Please join us if you can. On Wednesday, April 27th we have an "Arbor Day" celebration at West at 9:05. Mr. Palladino from PCIS will be traveling to meet with the West 5th graders at 10:30. The "Nature's Classroom" committee will be meeting at West on Wednesday, April 27th after school. Our PTA is sponsoring a "Family Night" at Wendy's restaurant on Thursday, April 28th from 5:00 - 8:00! Please come join us, have a delicious dinner while supporting West Elementary at the same time! See you soon at West! Despite Mother Nature's cruel joke on Monday (providing us with ONE MORE snow storm), our staff and students soldiered on! We had another busy week at West! BOKS continued on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Today (Wednesday) we have early release at 1:05 – teachers have professional development. Our Nature’s Classroom Committee met after school on Tuesday – all parents are welcome to join us in this exciting new adventure at West! We welcome donations of materials, tools and labor - any and all are welcome! Our next Nature's Classroom Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, April 27th after school. Tomorrow (Thursday) we have a staff meeting after school. The West School Council will meet at 6:00 PM and PTA at 7:00 PM.
Looking ahead, the fifth grade will be taking a field trip to the Museum of Science on Tuesday, April 12th. We have a PTA sponsored Enrichment Assembly on Wednesday, April 13th, "STEAM." On Thursday, April 14th, we are hosting "Parenting Digital Natives" at West Elementary at 6:30 PM. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to learn about their child's use of technology and how to safeguard them against the potential dangers with online behaviors and technology.
