Looking ahead to next week, we have Life Touch Picture Day on Monday, October 3rd. On Thursday, October 6th we have the West School staff meeting at 3:40, West School Council meeting at 6:00, and PTA meeting at 7:00. As we close out September, what a busy week it has been! Mr. Williams enjoyed reading to Ms. Keeley’s fourth grade class on Monday afternoon. Two of our teachers, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Willis attended math training on Tuesday with Mrs. Marchesiani – they also attended literacy training on Wednesday. Our first grade teachers had their makeup Professional Learning Community meeting on Wednesday morning. We had the "Massachusetts Children's Book Awards" with grades four and five in the IMC on Wednesday. We had “First Steps” math training on Thursday. On Friday “Polished Dental” will visit West Elementary, and we will celebrate our first “Westie Awards” assembly of the year (reflecting on the month of September) on Friday afternoon. We recognize students at West who demonstrate respect, responsibility, kindness and compassion. The October newsletter, “The West Way” is going home to families on Friday.

Another busy week has come and gone at West, as we officially welcome autumn! I enjoyed reading to Mrs. Walsh’s kindergarten class on Monday morning. Thank you boys and girls! Our teachers have been meeting this week for their professional learning community meetings. The Data Team met on Tuesday morning at 8:00. Thank you to Mr. Young, Ms. Keegan, Mrs. McBride, Ms. Learning, Mrs. O’Brien, Ms. Perry, Mrs. Lacroix-White and Mrs. Marchesiani for serving on this important committee! I have met with many West teachers this week, discussing professional goals for the 2016-2017 school year. I enjoyed reading to Mrs. Willis’ kindergarten class on Wednesday. We also had early dismissal on Wednesday afternoon – our West teachers had professional development at Plymouth North High School. On Thursday Mrs. Lacroix-White will offer literacy coaching with West teachers, and I look forward to having lunch with Ms. Keegan’s first graders on Thursday morning.
Looking ahead, the October "West Way" newsletter will be going home to families on Friday, September 30th. We hope to see you soon at West Elementary! What a very busy week we’ve had at West! On Tuesday evening we had our kindergarten, first and second grade open house from 6:00 – 7:30. Thank you to our K, 1 and 2 families for visiting West to support our students! On Wednesday evening we had our second open house for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade families! Thank you to our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade families for visiting West to support our students! I have been busy meeting with teachers this week, working on professional goals. I enjoyed reading to Mrs. Routhier’s first grade class on Wednesday morning. On Thursday Mrs. Marchesiani, Elementary Math Curriculum Coordinator, and Mrs. Lacroix-White, Elementary Literacy Coordinator were at West Elementary to provide coaching with our teachers. I had a fantastic lunch with Mrs. Cormier’s second graders on Thursday afternoon. Kindergarten and fourth grade teachers had their Professional Learning Community meetings on Thursday. We had a staff meeting Thursday after school and the West Elementary School Council met on Thursday evening at 6:00.
We are continuing plans with our "Nature's Classroom" expansion and improvement. PTA has funded a new shed for our outdoor classroom, as well as pavers to purchase for walk ways, and crushed stone and mulch! Thank you so much to our West partners, our PTA, for supporting this incredible project at West! Looking ahead to next week, we have early dismissal on Wednesday, September 21st at 1:05 – teachers in Plymouth have professional development that afternoon. Thank you for your continued support - see you soon at West! As we approach the end of our second week of school, I would like to thank everyone for their hard work - the first couple of weeks are always so busy for everyone – teachers, paraprofessionals, students, parents, custodians, secretaries and nurses. Thank you one and all!
This week was short (but busy) at West! Our second grade teachers had their Professional Learning Community meeting on Tuesday, first grade met on Wednesday, and fifth grade will meet on Friday afternoon. We had no school on Monday in observation of Labor Day, and we had no school yesterday for our state primary elections. I enjoyed reading to Ms. Keegan’s first grade class on Wednesday morning. Looking ahead to next week, we have our Open Houses on Tuesday, September 13th for K-2 families (from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM) and again on Wednesday, September 14th for grades 3-5 families (from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM). We also have a West School staff meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 3:40 in the Art Room, and the West School Council will be meeting at 6:00 PM in the Computer Lab. Any and all parents are welcome to serve on the West School Council for the 2016-2017 school year - please join us! We are up and running at West! Our first week of school is now complete! It was great to see all of our West families at the Ice Cream social on August 24th, and thank you to our PTA for organizing this special event! Our teachers and para-professionals started on Monday, August 29th! We had an exciting kick off with Dr. Maestas at Plymouth North High School! Our first day of school was Tuesday, August 30th for grades 1-5. We also had a successful kindergarten orientation on Tuesday – thank you to all of our parents who joined their child riding the bus! We are so excited to welcome our new kindergarteners! Kindergarten started on Wednesday with their first full day. Tonight we have our first PTA meeting of the new school year, at 7:00 in the Art room. We have no school tomorrow on Friday and no school on Monday, September 5th in observation of Labor Day.
Next week, we have no school on Thursday, September 8th for the voting primaries. We have an open house on September 13th from 6:00 – 7:30 for grades K-2 and a second open house on Wednesday, September 14th from 6:00 -7:30 for grades 3, 4, and 5. Please come and meet your child’s teacher and learn about the exciting things happening at West! The West School Council will be meeting on Thursday September 15th at West Elementary at 6:00 PM – please join us if you are able.
