Another busy week at West! Student Council met on Tuesday after school. Mrs. Marchesiani and Mrs. Lacroix-White were here for literacy and math coaching this week. We had early dismissal at 1:05 on Wednesday for curriculum professional development with teachers. Our Robotics Club also met on Wednesday afternoon. Our PTA will be kicking off the Scholastic Book Fair on Friday January 27th, and our fourth and fifth grade teachers will be attending literacy professional development on Friday at Federal Furnace Elementary School.

We’ve had strange weather this week – cold, warm, wet and rainy – but the snow has held off which is rare for January in New England! We all enjoyed the long holiday weekend, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Our teachers met this week for their Professional Learning Community meetings. Mrs. Lacroix-White was at West this week for literacy coaching with our teachers. The Robotics Club started this week at West, meeting on Wednesdays after school. Our kindergarten report cards are going home tomorrow on Friday. Also, on Friday evening, our chorus members will be performing at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence Rhode Island! They will be singing from 6:30 – 10:30 during the Providence Bruins game! Thank you for representing West Elementary boys and girls – we know you will do a great job and make us proud! Also thank you to Mrs. Runnals for her hard work in organizing this event for us. We also have a spirit day tomorrow at West - wear your Patriots gear in support of the New England Patriots as they march on to the Super Bowl!
Looking ahead to next week, our Student Council will be meeting on Tuesday January 24th after school. We have early dismissal on Wednesday, January 25th at 1:05 for teacher professional development. The Robotics Club will be meeting on Wednesday after school, and our PTA sponsored Scholastic Book Fair begins next week on Friday, January 27th. We hope to see you soon at West! The weather temperatures have been up, down (and all around), but we have remained steady within the walls of West this week! On Monday evening, the West School Council presented our 2017-2019 School Improvement plan to the Plymouth School Committee – thank you so much to the members of our West School Council! Mrs. Nelson (grade five) and Mrs. Willis (kindergarten) attended First Steps math training on Tuesday. We held our first Math Game Night committee meeting on Tuesday after school. Get ready boys, girls, parents and teachers for our third annual West Elementary Math Game Night on Tuesday, March 14th – which happens to be PI Day - 3.14! Don’t miss this fun filled night of math games! Mrs. Lacroix-White was here this week offering literacy coaching. I enjoyed having lunch with Mrs. Walsh’s kindergarten class on Thursday morning! Third grade teachers met on Thursday afternoon to work on their Silent Reading Assessment in literacy. On Friday we will all be wearing our Patriots gear for spirit day in support of the New England Patriots – go Pats!
Looking ahead, we have no school on Monday, January 16th in observation of Martin Luther King day. On Friday, January 20th, kindergarten report cards will be sent home, and our West Elementary Chorus is performing at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island (during a Providence Bruins game), from 6:30 - 10:30! Great job boys and girls - thank you for representing West Elementary, and thank you to Mrs. Runnals for organizing this incredible event! Welcome back! Happy 2017! Our West Data Team met on Thursday morning to plan for our mid-year assessments in math and literacy – thank you to the West Data Team! On Thursday we had our January staff meeting after school, with a presentation from our “Symphony Math” consultants. Our West School Council will be meeting on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM as will our PTA at 7:00 PM. On Friday, Polished Dental will pay a visit to West Elementary.
Looking ahead, on Monday evening, January 9th the West School Council will be presenting our 2017-2019 School Improvement Plan to the Plymouth School Committee at 7:00 at PCIS. The West Elementary "Math Night" committee will be meeting after school on Tuesday, January 10th. We have no school on Monday, January 16th in observation of Martin Luther King Day.
