This has been a great week at West – lots of holiday parties, celebrations of learning, and crafts. Special thanks to all of those boys and girls and staff members who donated to our Giving Tree – what a nice gesture during this special holiday time to think of others. Thank you Mrs. Luise for her hard work with this! The West staff enjoyed our holiday luncheon on Tuesday. Thank you to Mr. Young and to Ms. Learning for their hard work with organizing the Westie Awards, scheduled for this Friday afternoon, and congratulations to all children who will earn a Westie for December, demonstrating respect and responsibility at West! Also special thanks to our singing staff members to and Ms. Friedman for leading us in holiday songs. I am looking forward to having a nice lunch on Thursday afternoon with Mr. Young’s students. Thank you to the Blue Ribbon Committee for their hard work on Monday evening, and thank you to our Math Night Committee for their hard work on Tuesday evening. We are hosting a "Math Night" at West Elementary on March 4th, 2015. Stay tuned for more details! We had parent teacher conferences on Wednesday afternoon - thank you to all West parents for coming to meet with their child's teacher. Thank you to our West teachers for their hard work during our Professional Learning Communities this week. I am also looking forward to the upcoming production of "The Christmas Spiders” that Mrs. Sullivan's students will perform on Thursday afternoon!

Despite all of the heavy rains this week, we have sunny skies within the walls of West! Our BOKs program started at West School this week, on Tuesday mornings (at 7:50) for third-fifth graders and on Thursday mornings (at 7:50) for kindergarten – second graders. Thank you so much to Mr. Powers and to Mr. Young and to all the staff volunteers that participate. On Tuesday evening we all enjoyed our "Big Bed Time Story Pajama Drive" – thank you to our hard working committee, thank you to our readers, and thank you to our parents and boys and girls who donated their time to participate and donated PJs to friends in need! It was a very successful evening indeed, hot cocoa and all! We had parent teacher conferences on Wednesday afternoon – thank you West staff, and thank you to our West parents for being invested in their son or daughter's education at West. I enjoyed having lunch with Ms. Donovan’s class today – thank you for hosting boys and girls. I am looking forward to our holiday concert this evening - I am sure it will be a spectacular show. Thank you to Mrs. Kos and to our West performers. We also had many holiday celebrations this week at West: thank you to Mrs. Routhier and to Ms. Keegan for hosting first grade holiday celebrations. And, I am truly inspired and very impressed with our "Holiday Door" contest at West - amazing works of creativity and spirit in the halls of West!
The December vacation begins on Monday, December 22nd through Friday, January 2nd. West School reopens on Monday, January 5th, 2015. See you soon at West! It is our first week of December, and we are all getting into the holiday spirit at West! Our teachers have been busy this week at their Professional Learning Community Meetings – thank you West teachers. Our tutors continued to visit us from Plymouth South High School on Monday and Wednesday. We celebrated Mrs. Pecorella’s retirement on Wednesday evening – thank you Mrs. Pecorella for your many years of service at West. We had our staff meeting last night – thank you West staff for your work with our Blue Ribbon initiative. The West School Council met last night as did the West PTA. I enjoyed having lunch with Mrs. O’Brien’s class yesterday – thank you for hosting boys and girls! And, I love the new “Westie Art” murals that are now completed and on display in our hallways and in our cafeteria at West. Thank you to our PTA for funding this Westie inspired art! We also have kicked off our "Giving Tree" drive at West - thank you to any donors honoring this very worth while cause. Our student council met this week on Tuesday afternoon - thank you to Mr. Powers and to Mrs. O'Brien for their hard work. Our recent Turkey Trot at West collected and donated over 1,780 cans of food. This is MAGNIFICENT! Thank you so much to all of our West families for participating in this food drive.
Report cards are going home this Friday, December 5th. Looking ahead to next week, we are having parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday afternoon, December 10th, and our BOKs exercise program begins on Tuesday morning at 7:50 (for 3rd - 5th grades) and on Thursday mornings at 7:50 (for Kindergarten - 2nd grades). And, our "Big Bed Time Story PJ Drive" is Tuesday evening, December 9th at 6:30. Be sure not to miss this literacy event! |
