Well boys and girls, we’ve had cooler temperatures and warmer temperatures – all in the span of one week! The good news is that we have been able to have outdoor recess this week. On Monday, our morning and afternoon kindergarten sessions switched. Several staff members attended CPI training this week at Plymouth South Middle School – thank you to those West teachers for attending this important training! Mrs. Colby met with the Technology Integration Specialists throughout the district on Wednesday afternoon. Our BOKs program is fully up and running at West: Tuesday mornings at 7:50 for third, fourth and fifth grades and Thursday mornings for kindergarten, first and second grades. Thank you to Mr. Powers and to Mr. Young, and thank you to all of our teacher and parent volunteers, assisting with this very important exercise program. I am looking forward to having lunch with Mrs. Cormier’s class today at 11:15. What a treat! Our Math Committee is meeting today after school – don’t forget about our upcoming math night at West on February 25th at 6:00 PM. Come enjoy a night of math games with your son or daughter! Thank you to our PTA for organizing and sponsored an excellent enrichment assembly on Wednesday morning, the Tanglewood Marionettes! This was an excellent show – I heard great reviews from boys and girls at West! Robotics club is now meeting Wednesdays after school – thank you to Mrs. Christensen for organizing and leading this club at West! The West French Club is meeting before school on Friday mornings at West – thank you to Mrs. Cormier and Mr. Ozelius for their hard work with this club at West - our conference room now closely resembles a Parisian café! Our February “West Way” newsletter is going home with students on Friday, and is also posted on our West Elementary web page for families to refer to. Looking ahead, don’t forget boys and girls that next week is our Scholastic Book Fair at West Elementary! Please come ready to support our PTA while also promoting reading at home! Our Family Night for the book fair is Tuesday, February 2nd from 5:00 – 8:00.

Hello West students, staff, and families! Snow has finally fallen on the grounds of West Elementary, and the cold weather continues, with a potential storm on the horizon for this weekend! I hope we don't have another winter like 2015! We all enjoyed Monday, January 18th off – thank you Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On Tuesday we welcomed Ms. Learning back to third grade and also Mrs. Hillary to Life Skills, replacing Mr. Hoey! A warm welcome to Mrs. Hillary, and we missed you Ms. Learning! We started BOKs this week on Tuesday mornings for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and on Thursday mornings for our kindergarteners, first graders and second graders. Our teachers have been meeting this week at their Professional Learning Communities – thank you to our hard working West teachers! Several of our para-educators attended CPI training on Wednesday at Plymouth South Middle School. And, who could forget our “Spirit Day” at West tomorrow on Friday, with our beloved New England Patriots advancing to the playoffs, as they face the Denver Broncos this weekend! Go Pats!
Part time kindergarten students switch from morning to afternoon (and vice-versa) this Monday, January 25th! Kindergarten report cards are going home on Friday, January 22nd. Stay warm everyone - I hope to see you soon at West! Winter is definitely here boys and girls! Bundle up! Hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and winter coats are in order for this time of year! Another busy week has passed at West: Mrs. Rosetti, Ms. Perry and I interviewed several candidates this week for our CARE program. Mrs. Marchesiani offered math professional development on Monday, meeting with kindergarten and first grade teachers. Our Math Night Committee met on Tuesday afternoon. Don't forget to mark your calendars for our second annual West Elementary Math Night: February 25th! Come play math games, BINGO, and estimate how many Valentine's hearts are in a jar! Mrs. McBride hosted teachers from Abington Public Schools on Wednesday. We had early dismissal today on Wednesday afternoon – teachers attended technology professional development. I am looking forward to having lunch with Mrs. Walsh’s kindergarten class on Thursday! What a treat for me! On Friday, we are celebrating spirit day at West, wearing our New England Patriots gear! We are also looking forward to our Ithacappella performance on Friday afternoon – what an amazing, talented group of singers!
In observation of Dr. Martin Luther King, there is no school on Monday, January 18th. Have a nice long, relaxing weekend! Happy New Year and welcome 2016! BRRR! It has certainly been cold, but that hasn’t dampened our sunny enthusiasm at West School! I hope you all had a nice vacation and a great holiday! We are back into the swing of things at West, with lots of goals for our new year. Our teachers have been meeting this week during their PLCs, very busy and focused. Our West School council presented our School Improvement Plan on Monday evening to the Plymouth School Committee – thank you so much to my fellow council members! Many of our para-educators attended CPI refresher training on Wednesday – thank you to our paras! Mrs. Marchesiani joined our second grade teachers on Wednesday morning for math professional development. We hosted the Consulting Teachers of Literacy for Plymouth Public Schools on Wednesday afternoon from across the district! I am looking forward to having a great lunch this afternoon with Mrs. Hayne’s boys and girls – thank you for hosting, Mrs. Haynes! We have our first staff meeting of the new year this afternoon after school, and PTA will meet tonight at 7:00 PM. Best of luck to the West singers tomorrow evening from our chorus, as they travel to Providence to sing at the Providence Bruins game on Friday night! We know you will do an excellent job representing West Elementary!
Looking ahead, we have early release on Wednesday, January 13th at 1:05. Morning kindergarten and full day kindergarten are in session. There is no afternoon kindergarten. There is no school on Monday, January 18th in observation of Dr. Martin Luther King. On January 25th our AM and PM kindergarten sessions change (morning to afternoon and vice versa).
