Another busy week at West! Our All Town Band, Orchestra and Jazz performers! Thank you for all of your hard work and thank you for representing West School! BOKs continued this week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – thank you to all of our teacher and parent volunteers for organizing this for our children! On Wednesday morning we had our “Reading Challenge” assembly for the month of March! Congratulations to all West students for meeting the reading goal challenge. We all enjoyed the laser show – thank you to Mrs. McBride and the Reading Challenge Committee for their hard work to organize this event at West. It was quite an interesting morning, with Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Darth Vader doing the YMCA and the Whip Nae-nae on the red carpet! May the force be with you, boys and girls, when you continue to read! We celebrated our Westie awards for the month of March on Friday afternoon.

Another busy week at West! We had a surprise snow day on Monday – that crazy mother nature – you never know what she’ll do next! We had BOKs this week on Tuesday morning for grades 3-5 and on Thursday morning for grades K-2. Our teachers have been busy meeting this week for their Professional Learning Communities. Our fourth and fifth graders did a wonderful job representing us on Tuesday afternoon at Plymouth North High School for the Robotics Rally! Great job Robotics team members! We had early dismissal on Wednesday for parent teacher conferences - thank you to our staff and parents! Our chorus rehearsed and practiced on Thursday morning. We have no school tomorrow in honor of Good Friday! Keep reading those books, boys and girls and log your minutes! Our reading challenge continues through the end of March!

On Monday our third and fourth grade teachers had professional development with Mrs. Marchesiani, our Math Curriculum Coordinator for the district. We had BOKs this week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Life Touch Studios visited West Elementary on Wednesday in the Art Room for spring pictures! On Friday our French Club will meet at 8:00 and report cards are going home with students on Friday (grades 1-5).
Looking ahead, on Tuesday March 22nd is the Robotics Rally for our Robotics Club. On Wednesday, March 23rd we have early dismissal at 1:05. We have no school on Friday, March 25th in observation of "Good Friday!" Happy Easter to all those who celebrate on Sunday, March 27th. See you soon at West! It is definitely feeling more like spring at West! As I type this blog entry, it is almost 70 degrees outside! We had kindergarten registration this week for our new kindergarten students entering West this fall. Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping with this process. First graders visited the PCIS Planetarium on Monday. Our fifth grade teachers met with Mrs. Marchesiani for math professional development on Monday afternoon. Our teachers have been meeting this week for their Professional Learning Community meetings: second grade met with Mrs. Riordan from our science department on Tuesday afternoon and our first grade teachers met with Natalie LaCroix-White for literacy development on Wednesday morning. BOKS continued this week for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students on Tuesday morning and for our kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students on Thursday morning. Ms. Perry and I had a great game of basketball with Ms. Grattan’s fourth graders on Tuesday afternoon – they earned a reward game with us for raising money for “Pennies for Hunger.” Congratulations to Ms. Grattan’s boys and girls for helping others in need! On Wednesday morning we had an enrichment assembly for the entire school, “Ready, Set, Jump!” This dynamic show was enjoyed by both staff and students – thank you to our PTA for organizing and funding this event. We had early dismissal on Wednesday at 1:05 – teachers attended professional development. On Friday morning our French Club will be meeting at 8:00. Mrs. Hayne’s and Ms. Learning’s third grade classes will be visting the PCIS Planetarium at 9:15. We had a successful fire drill on Wednesday morning - great job staff and students!

Daylight Savings time begins. Looking ahead to next week, we have Life Touch coming to West for spring pictures on Wednesday, March 16th in the Art room. Report cards are being sent home (for grades 1-5) on Friday, March 18th. Happy St. Patrick's Day on Thursday, March 17th! See you soon at West! Spring is right around the corner! The good news is that at least we do not have six feet of snow on the ground this year! We hosted Polished Dental Clinic at West Elementary on Monday – thank you to Nurse Marisa for her help with this. We had no school on Tuesday, March 1st for Primary Voting in the state of Massachusetts. On Wednesday Ms. Perry and I enjoyed having a basketball game with Ms. Learning’s third grade class – what a great game of team work and sportsmanship! We celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Wednesday by having students “Drop Everything and Read” and by wearing striped clothing or red clothing! Way to read, boys and girls! Don’t forget about my literacy challenge for the month of March: students need to read twenty minutes per night. BOKS continued on Thursday morning for our kindergarten, first and second graders. Later today we have a staff meeting at 3:35. School Council meets at 6:00 PM and PTA meets at 7:00 PM. On Friday morning our West Elementary French Club will meet at 8:00 AM, and our School Store will be open for business in PODs 1 and 2 at 8:50.
Looking ahead for next week: kindergarten registration (for the fall of 2016) starts on Monday, March 7th, running through Friday March 11th from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at West! If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten in the fall, please come to West next week and register your son or daughter! We also have an enrichment assembly on Wednesday morning, "Ready, Set Jump!" This will be for the whole school at 9:15 - thank you to our dedicated PTA for organizing and funding this program! We also have early dismissal on Wednesday afternoon, March 9th. Students are being dismissed at 1:05. Stay warm and see you soon at West! |
