Welcome back from vacation boys and girls! March is right around the corner! What a week it has been! On Monday, Dr. Brian from “New England Smiles” visited Pre School and Kindergarten students in the afternoon! The third grade teachers met with Mrs. Riordan (our Science Curriculum Coordinator) at their Professional Learning Community, reviewing the new science curriculum standards. Our School Committee toured West Elementary School on Monday evening, as we hosted them at West School for their meeting. The reviews were positive and favorable! Thank you to the Plymouth School Committee for visiting us! On Tuesday we had BOKs in the morning for third, fourth and fifth grade students. The second grade teachers had their PLC meeting in the afternoon, working on their Response to Intervention groups. On Wednesday morning our first grade teachers had their PLC at 10:00, meeting with Mrs. Riordan to discuss our science curriculum. Several staff members attended CPI training on Wednesday and Thursday this week, at Plymouth South Middle School. We all enjoyed our enrichment assembly on Wednesday afternoon, “Science Rocks!” Thank you to our PTA for organizing and funding this event for us! On Thursday we had BOKs for kindergarten, first and second grade students. The kindergarten teachers met with Mrs. Riordan at their Professional Learning Community on Thursday morning. Ms. Perry and I are looking forward to a game of tag this afternoon with Mrs. Routhier’s first graders - they earned a class reward for good behavior! The fourth grade teachers will meet with Mrs. Riordan on this afternoon. We are all excited for our second annual “Math Night” tonight at 6:00! Thank you to all those West students, staff members, and parents for helping to organize and support this special night - go MATHLETES! On Friday morning our French Club at West will meet. We are also having our Westie Awards on Friday afternoon , kicking off our reading challenge for the month of March. Congratulations to all Westie award winners who exemplify kindness, compassion, respect and responsibility. The fifth grade teachers will have their PLC on Friday afternoon, meeting with Mrs. Riordan to discuss the science curriculum. It has been quite a busy week back!

Well, winter is finally here boys and girls – we have had two snow days already! We had no school on Monday, February 8th, just in time for Chinese New Year! Our teachers have been busy meeting this week at their PLCs – thank you West teachers! On Wednesday Ms. Grattan's and Ms. Keeley’s fourth grade classes traveled to the Planetarium at PCIS. Also on Wednesday our teachers had professional development in the afternoon – we had early dismissal at 1:05. Our Robotics Club met on Wednesday afternoon. BOKS will continue on Thursday morning for our kindergarten, first, and second grade students. Ms. Learning will host “Valentine’s Centers” with her third grade students and families on Thursday afternoon at 1:45. Our Math Night Committee will meet Thursday after school, in preparation for our upcoming “West Elementary Math Night” on Thursday, February 25th at 6:00 PM! Our French Club will meet on Friday morning – tres bien boys and girls! We are all looking forward to “Heart Healthy” day at West on Friday, February 12th – thank you to Mr. Powers, Mrs. Cormier and to all of our hard working staff members and volunteers who organized this event at West!
I wish you all a wonderful winter vacation, starting on Monday February 15th – Friday, February 19th. See you back at West on Monday, February 22nd. We’ve had a great week at West! Our Book Fair continues to push sales at West this week, promoting reading for our students, while also helping our PTA funding! Thank you to our PTA for organizing and running this event at West! Many staff members attended CPI refresher training on Wednesday at Plymouth South Middle School. We hosted our Consulting Teachers of Literacy at West this week on Wednesday – thank you to Dr. White, Mrs. Lacriox-White, Mrs. McBride and Mrs. Crompton for all of their help in promoting literacy at West Elementary and beyond! The PTA 5th Grade Farewell Committee met on Wednesday from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. BOKs continued this week at West on Tuesday mornings (for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) and Thursday mornings (for kindergarten, first and second graders). West Student Council met on Tuesday evening this week. Our Robotics Club met on Wednesday after school. On Thursday we had our February staff meeting, West School Council meeting and PTA meeting. Our French Club will be meeting tomorrow on Friday morning at 8:00. Dr. Brian (from New England Smiles) will also be meeting with Pre-School and Kindergarten students on Friday morning.
Don’t forget our PTA Summer Camp Activities Fair on Saturday, February 6th from 11:00 – 2:00. Looking ahead, we have early dismissal on Wednesday, February 10th at 1:05 and February vacation from Monday, February 15th – Friday, February 19th. Heart Healthy Day is being held at West on Friday, February 12th! |
